Landing Point partners with The City Tutors

Landing Point and The City Tutors Partner to Mentor NYC’s Underserved Communities

Landing Point is excited to announce a new partnership with The City Tutors, a free, on-demand NYC-wide learning and career center, to provide mentorship opportunities for first-generation, immigrant, and historically underserved communities across New York City. This partnership aims to open doors to the asset management industry, particularly hedge funds and private equity, which are areas that have historically overlooked learners from the schools The City Tutors serves.

A Unique Mentorship Program

The City Tutors connects learners with mentors from all industries, offering support at a place, time, and pace that suits their needs. With 170 learners per month making mentorship requests—many from tech and finance fields—this program has grown rapidly since its inception in 2020, when The City Tutors separated from City College of New York. Since then, they have facilitated over 4,200 mentorships, designed specifically for the CUNY community. Whether learners dream of a career in finance, technology, or any other field, The City Tutors is committed to connecting them with industry insiders who can provide relevant guidance—and doing so quickly.

As part of this partnership, Landing Point employees will mentor these learners, helping them navigate the complexities of job searching, career exploration, and professional development. Due to Landing Point’s deep-rooted relationships in the asset management industry, their mentors will also be introducing mentees to contacts within hedge funds and private equity firms—industries that traditionally do not recruit from the schools The City Tutors serves.

Landing Point’s Commitment to Mentorship

Landing Point was founded with a vision to transform the recruiting industry by building a team that acts with integrity and treats people with respect. Their approach emphasizes collaboration, curiosity, and empathy—values that will guide their participation in this mentorship initiative. Landing Point employees engage in both informal and formal mentorship through internal programs like their “Grasshopper Unit,” which supports new and junior recruiters. Now, through The City Tutors, they will extend these principles to CUNY students and other underserved communities.

“With Landing Point’s roots in NYC, we understand the importance of providing mentorship to those within our city schools that don’t always have access to abundant career options. What drew us to this partnership with The City Tutors is the organic, one-to-one relationships we’re able to build with our mentees. Whether it’s assistance during critical career moments or simply acting as a sounding board, we feel very aligned with their mission and are grateful for the opportunity,” said Carlo Coumoutsos, Partner at Landing Point.

Bridging the Gap for NYC Learners

The City Tutors has been built for and by the CUNY community. Initially incubated for seven years as the academic support arm of the Colin Powell School at City College, The City Tutors split from the university in 2020 to meet the evolving needs of learners. As the pandemic brought unprecedented levels of stress, fear, and anxiety to CUNY students, The City Tutors responded by expanding its mentorship offerings.

“Our partnership with Landing Point is about more than just mentorship,” said Garri Rivkin, Executive Director and Founder of The City Tutors. “We’re opening doors to industries that many of our learners never thought they could access. By creating these new pathways, we hope to transform the career trajectories of underserved New Yorkers, giving them access to opportunities they previously saw as out of reach. At The City Tutors, we want every learner to see themselves achieving their dreams, and we’re here to make that connection happen.”

Next Steps in Collaboration

Through this partnership, The City Tutors and Landing Point plan to host both virtual and in-person mentorship events, offering learners opportunities to connect with professionals in hedge funds, private equity, and other sectors.
