Company Overview:
Walleye Capital is an $1 billion+ multi-strategy investment firm headquartered in New York City, with over 350 employees across five main offices. Founded in 2005 as an options market maker, we have organically grown into a global investment firm specializing in Volatility, Fundamental Equities, and Quant strategies.
At Walleye, we continuously innovate by focusing on three core principles: approach, platform, and people. Our approach is to allocate risk capital where we believe there is not only a compelling opportunity, but also a clear ability to define our tangible edge. We seek to leverage the mathematical benefits of diversification while utilizing sophisticated infrastructure, technology, and our balance sheet to do so in a structurally advantageous way. Our platform, developed over two decades, is central to our operations, evolving alongside business complexities and technological advancements to support our team’s success. Our people are our greatest asset, and we’ve cultivated an environment that attracts top talent by balancing autonomy with collaboration, and intelligence with integrity.
Position Overview:
The Equity Long Short Technology team plays a pivotal role in Walleye’s continued growth and success. As the financial landscape becomes increasingly data-driven, our team is leading the firm’s transformation by building advanced solutions that enhance decision-making and unlock new capabilities for investment professionals. We operate at the intersection of finance, data, and cutting-edge AI — delivering tools and platforms that power Walleye’s competitive edge.
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Equity Long Short Technology team and help design, build, and scale state-of-the-art investment systems. You’ll collaborate with researchers, portfolio managers, and technologists across the firm to integrate tools into core workflows, drive analytical insights, and deploy production-grade solutions, along with AI-enabled solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, including financial knowledge graphs, intelligent retrieval systems, and LLM-integrated applications. You’ll own the design and implementation of backend infrastructure and shape the future of how data and AI are used across Walleye.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support microservices APIs using various technologies following TDD standards.
  • Manage and enhance system infrastructure.
  • Build and optimize data import pipelines.
  • Create research applications and tools to help streamline PMs workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and application issues.
  • Model complex relationships across structured and unstructured data using graph databases.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience (3+ in backend AI solutions)
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and popular ML libraries
  • Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience building and consuming REST APIs
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including CI/CD and infrastructure as code
  • Experience designing or working with Knowledge Graphs and Graph Databases (e.g., Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLMs and AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic Claude) into production is preferred.
  • Experience with vector databases and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial markets or investment workflows is preferred.
  • Experience with cloud platforms is preferred.
  • Understanding of AI agent architectures or multi-agent systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with message queuing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) is preferred.
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Grafana) is preferred.
