The world of consulting continues to attract professionals seeking flexibility, exposure to leading firms, and opportunities for advancement. Yet many candidates exploring consulting for the first time have questions about longevity, compensation, and career growth potential.

Key Takeaways
Longevity exists in consulting. Many consultants transition into permanent roles after contracts end — often at senior levels such as VP or SVP.
Contract work doesn’t mean less pay. Consultants are typically paid hourly instead of annually, but overall compensation often remains competitive.
Consulting can open doors to full-time opportunities. Even straight contract roles can lead to long-term offers, depending on performance and client needs.
Career growth is about more than tenure. Each consulting role expands your network, enhances your exposure to new teams and systems, and builds your professional reputation.
Your recruiter is your advocate. At Landing Point, consultants work with recruiters who ensure compensation aligns with your expectations and market standards.
In today’s market, consulting has evolved into a strategic career path, not just a temporary option. Longevity comes from consistently delivering value, building strong relationships, and maintaining flexibility in a fast-changing industry.
Many of Landing Point’s consultants have transitioned into permanent positions at VP and SVP levels, showing that consulting can be a launchpad for leadership opportunities.
There’s also a persistent myth that contractors earn less. In reality, hourly rates often match or exceed salaried equivalents, offering professionals competitive pay and the freedom to explore multiple engagements throughout the year.
Finally, the real advantage of consulting is connection. Each project broadens your exposure to different company cultures, technologies, and leaders, all while strengthening your resume and future opportunities.

Angel Rivera:
When I talk to professionals who are new to consulting, a lot of questions that come up surround longevity.
From a longevity standpoint, I’ve seen in my own experience candidates who have taken permanent offers after their contract duration. That’s typically a contract-to-hire situation. But even with straight contract roles, I’ve seen candidates receive permanent offers after their assignments finish up — often at SVP, VP, or AVP levels. There’s no shortage of opportunity within consulting to grow your career and extend your time in an assignment.
Another topic that usually comes up when I talk to candidates new to consulting is compensation. As a recruiter at Landing Point, my job is to make sure you get what you’re asking for. The companies and firms we work with on the consulting team are exceptional.
It’s a common misconception that contract roles pay less — you’re not taking a pay cut at all. The main difference is simply that you’re paid on an hourly basis instead of an annual salary.
From a growth standpoint, consulting isn’t just about building skills or tenure — it’s also about who you know. With every new role, you’re expanding your network and professional relationships, which opens doors for future opportunities and projects.
