Why Resume Edits Before Busy Season Matter
As year-end approaches, hiring across accounting and finance ramps up — and so does competition. The months leading into busy season are a prime opportunity for professionals to strengthen their resumes and position themselves for growth.
Whether you’re an auditor, accountant, or finance professional, proactively building experience in high-value areas can make a lasting difference when new opportunities arise.

Key Takeaways
Be proactive about your development. Ask your seniors, managers, or directors to include you in projects or areas you haven’t worked on yet, especially those that stretch your skills and expand your experience.
Target high-value audit areas. For auditors in asset and wealth management, hiring employers consistently ask about management fees, incentive fees, waterfall calculations, and valuation areas. Experience here strengthens your technical credibility and resume.
Plan early in busy season. Don’t wait for assignments to come to you. During planning phases, communicate your interest in these complex areas so you can contribute meaningfully and learn from the start.
Position your resume for long-term growth. Exposure to challenging, client-facing work not only builds your technical expertise but also makes your resume stand out when you’re ready to interview. Employers value initiative and demonstrated curiosity — traits that signal leadership potential.
Taking ownership of your professional growth during busy season shows that you’re invested in your career trajectory. Candidates who take this approach are often first in line for promotions, internal mobility, and new offers.

Daniela Posillico:
A lot of candidates come to me asking how to elevate their resume. One of the best ways to do this is to speak with your seniors, managers, or directors and ask to be included in projects or areas of work you haven’t been exposed to yet.
For example, when I speak with auditors — especially those working with asset and wealth management clients — there are certain parts of the audit that our clients consistently ask about: management fees, incentive fees, waterfall calculations, and valuation areas.
It’s important that during busy season or the planning phase, you proactively ask your higher-ups if you can be part of these key areas. Gaining experience in them not only strengthens your skill set but also sets your resume apart when you’re ready to interview or explore new opportunities.
