Company Overview:
A private equity firm with over $6.9 billion in committed capital under management, investing in middle-market companies across North America and Europe, is seeking an Assistant Controller for their New York office. The role supports the Chief Financial Officer and Controller in management company operations and private fund accounting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee management company accounting and reporting process
  • Analyze and maintain management company budgeting and department allocated expenses
  • Prepare accounts payable and fund reimbursements for the management company
  • Manage subscription lines of credit for management company and private funds
  • Maintain primary portfolio, accounting, and taxation records for on-shore and off-shore private funds
  • Monitor cash flow
  • Handle capital calls and distributions
  • Review management company and private funds quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Review private funds quarterly investor reports and updates
  • Manage capital processes including evaluation of carried interest models
  • Prepare/maintain quarterly performance metrics and carry for private fund calculations
  • Manage investor correspondence, inquiries, and requests
  • Review investor and investment transactions
  • Manage the annual audit process
  • Work closely with external tax service provider, fund administrators, and fund auditor
  • Assist the Director of Compliance with management company and private funds compliance reporting
  • Work closely with investment team on funding investments
  • Analyze and understand complex Fund and portfolio company structures
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls
  • Handle ad hoc internal tasks and analyses

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of public accounting and private equity, asset management, or fund administration experience
  • Prior experience in public accounting (Big Four or national firm preferred), ideally with a focus on investment funds or financial services
  • Experience working with third-party fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including investment company accounting and fair value measurement
  • Experience preparing and reviewing quarterly and annual fund financial statements and investor reporting
  • Familiarity with private equity fund structures, including management companies, GP entities, SPVs, and co-investment vehicles
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex reconciliations and analytical review

Compensation:
Salary: $130,000 – $160,000, Plus Bonus
